When I was deciding what to name my business, I didn’t have to look far for inspiration. Years ago, I gave my husband a meaningful gift, his grandfather’s original house blueprints from the 1960s, carefully framed so they could be preserved and appreciated. Today, those blueprints hang in our home office, and every day I see them as I begin my own work.
At first, they were just a family treasure, a reminder of history, craft, and the precision that goes into designing something meant to last. But over the years, I realized those framed drawings were also a perfect metaphor for what I do. Just like every great building begins with a sketch, every great learning solution begins with a blueprint.
For me, learning design has always been about bringing the pieces together. It starts with a vision of what success should look like. From there, it is about sketching out the structure, identifying what is missing, and drafting the right plan before the building begins. That is how you move from ideas and goals to programs that engage people, close performance gaps, and deliver measurable results.
Naming my company Blueprint Learning felt right because it reflects both who I am and how I work. I love problem solving. I love identifying gaps and opportunities. I love collaborating with people across different industries, each bringing their own expertise to the table. And I love seeing that sketch on paper grow into a fully realized solution that helps people learn, grow, and succeed.
So yes, blueprints may have started in someone else’s hands, but they have inspired the way I think about learning too. And that inspiration, a blend of structure, creativity, and purpose, is at the heart of everything I do at Blueprint Learning.
